Renowned artist Hue Nguyen, celebrated as Artist Emeritus for Hoffman Fabrics, presents Making Smiles, a two-day exhibition of his original paintings. All proceeds from the show will benefit Smile Train, helping provide life-changing cleft surgeries for children worldwide.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon—a milestone that underscores the enduring resilience of the Vietnamese diaspora and deepens the meaning of Hue’s creative journey.

In addition to showcasing his artwork, Hue will debut the English-language version of his deeply personal diary-novel.

After fleeing war-torn Vietnam, Truong builds a quiet life in Southern California, surrounded by family, fading memories, and the ghosts of lost loves. But time, like exile, leaves its own scars. As illness approaches and old wounds resurface, Truong finds himself pulled into the deepest reflections of his past—on the women who shaped him, the country that shaped them all, and the fragile tenderness that still lingers in the spaces between regret and forgiveness.

Set against the backdrop of 1990s America, this lyrical, haunting novel is a meditation on identity, devotion, and the sorrow of survival. In Truong’s final journey—from love to loss, from exile to homecoming—readers will discover a portrait of a man undone by memory, and a story as gentle as it is unforgettable.
