Author to Discuss New Book About Arlington National Cemetery,
Censorship, Memoirs, Travel Journals, Social Media & Publishing

The San Fernando Valley branch of the California Writers Club, serving Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, welcomes author Gary Zelinski as the in-person and Zoom keynote speaker at 1 pm on Saturday, May 2. His presentation, “From Writer to Author,” will be given at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Wasserman Campus, Saban Center, 23388 Mulholland Drive, Woodland Hills.

Guests are always welcome. The first in-person visit is free. Zoom guest tickets are available for $10 until noon on Friday, May 1. Club members may attend in either format free of charge.

Zelinski served for 22 years in the United States Air Force, followed by 20 years as a management consultant. When he retired, Zelinski and his wife, Lillian, began traveling. Together, they've chronicled their journeys on their sailboat and later in an RV.

The author recently published “A Walk Among Heroes: Searching for America's Better Angels” about heroes buried at Arlington National Cemetery. This book has garnered over 100 five-star reviews on Amazon, and the endorsement of the president of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. Zelinski has appeared on several TV stations across the country and on over 30 radio stations.

“Aim High: A Love Story” is his just-released memoir. He's a big believer that everyone should write their story to ensure family and friends have something to hold on to long after they're gone.

His presentation will focus on the lessons he's learned as he moved from writer to published author. As the author of three self-published travel journals and two traditionally published books, he's explored every variation of the book publishing business and has the scars to prove it. Having spent countless hours creating a social media presence, he knows what works and what's a waste of time.

Because of the nature of his previous government work, he endured months of delays while censors took a scalpel to his manuscript. He'll share costly mistakes in signing publishing contracts and share alternatives. A survivor of this gauntlet, he remains upbeat.
