Arrest Made in Hit-and-Run Death of 82-Year-Old Woman
Canoga Park man is arrested in connection with the incident that occurred in Pacoima.
A 21-year-old man was behind bars Sunday in connection with the hit-and-run death of an 82-year-old woman crossing a Pacoima street, police said.
Eduardo Garcia was arrested about 2 a.m. Sunday at his Canoga Park home, about six hours after allegedly striking Herlinda Carrillo on Van Nuys Boulevard near El Dorado Avenue on Saturday night, Los Angeles police Officer James Norton of the Valley Traffic Division said.
Carrillo was not in a crosswalk when Garcia's 2000 Toyota Tundra pick-up allegedly struck her on Van Nuys Boulevard about 7:50 p.m. Saturday, Norton said. Paramedics were unable to save Carrillo, he said.

A witness gave police Garcia's license plate number, and he was arrested at his Canoga Park home and booked on suspicion of felony hit and run, Norton said. Bail was set at $50,000.
Had Garcia stopped, Norton said, he might not have been considered responsible for Carrillo's death, since she was not in a crosswalk.
