Updated: Bodies Found in West Hills Garage Fire

Firefighters battling a blaze on West Vanowen Street discovered two bodies at the scene.

Two bodies were found today in a converted, detached garage that was damaged by a fire in the West Hills area of Los Angeles.

Firefighters sent to the residential property in the 22500 block of West Vanowen Street at 10:10 a.m. extinguished the flames in 17 minutes and discovered the bodies, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Although information on the gender and age of the dead people was not immediately released, a neighbor told reporters the victims were a mother and her son who may have been living on the premises.

It was unclear if foul play was involved in the deaths, said LAPD Officer Ricardo Hernandez.
