DUI Checkpoint Set For Topanga Area
The Los Angeles Police Department has DUI checkpoints scheduled in the Topanga area and throughout the city this weekend.
LOS ANGELES, CA — Police will be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers with DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols Friday through Saturday.
The Los Angeles Police Department has several checkpoints planned.
"The deterrent effect of High Visibility Enforcement using both DUI checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols has proven to lower the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug impaired traffic collisions," according to the Los Angeles Police Department. "Research shows that collisions involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely."

In 2016, the LAPD investigated more than 2,400 DUI-related collisions that killed 21 people and caused over 1,000 injuries. As of May 20, 2017, there have been 901 DUI-related traffic collisions in Los Angeles, which is a eight percent decrease from 979 collisions in 2016.
