Family of Man Shot by Police Plans Lawsuit Against City

The man was killed by police following a high speed chase that ended near Woodland Hills.

The family of a 19-year-old Winnetka man who was shot and killed by police near Woodland Hills following a late-night chase through the western San Fernando Valley will announce the filing of a federal lawsuit against the city and Los Angeles Police Department Monday.

Abdul Arian was shot dozens of times by Los Angeles police around 10 p.m. April 11, after he led officers on a high-speed chase that ended on the Ventura (101) Freeway near Woodland Hills.

According to the LAPD, Arian called 911 during the chase, which began after he ran a red light, and told a dispatcher he was armed and was prepared to shoot officers.
