On Saturday,
June 7, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fire Glass Studio will hold an Open House
at 8475 Canoga Avenue
in Canoga Park. “Craft/Art/Surprise” is the theme of this
event, and marks a new focus on community outreach and education. Michal
Hasson, founder of the studio, says that everyone is welcome to learn about the
artistic potential of glass fusion, a process that involves heating glass and
fusing it with other pieces of glass.
“In fused glass, there are so many colors, transparencies, shapes,
textures and, yes, magic and mystery,” she says. “I’m excited that we now have
a big chance to show kids and their families, and adults of all ages, how this special
kind of craft art offers so many beautiful surprises. I want them to know how
making this art enables them to better see themselves and the world around
them.”
The
Open House will feature a variety of art pieces created by the studio’s
students and a discussion about glass fusing techniques and methods by artist
and teacher Darren
Frale, who learned his craft at the Corning Museum of Glass and Pilchuck Glass
School.
In addition to the Open House, Hasson noted that Fire Glass Studio will be
offering a number of classes and workshops for both kids and adults during the
summer. Call 818-709-1055 for more information or visit www.fireglassstudio.com.
