Get Out for Some Weekend Fun: Aug. 3-5

Here are some events and activities taking place in and around the neighborhood this weekend.

We know you don't always stay in the neighborhood for the weekend, so here are some  events and activities taking place Saturday and Sunday in town and nearby.

British Battle of the Bands: In celebration of the Olympic Games taking place in London, the is presenting a tribute battle of Britain’s two greatest bands in August. Beatles and Rolling Stones fan can come together for  two nights of legendary sound: On Friday, Ticket to Ride will perform three sets depicting the transformation of the Beatles and their music from the mopped top Fab Four through the Sgt. Pepper/ Magical Mystery Tour phase to their final years with the White Album and Abbey Road. The show begins at 9 p.m. Next Friday, Aug. 10, the Hollywood Stones will perform Rolling Stone fan favorites. Admission is free. The cantina is located at 23527 Calabasas Road, Calabasas.

Romeo and Juliet: California Lutheran University's Kingsmen Shakespeare Company performs Romeo and Juliet at 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the school's Kingsmen Park, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. The grounds open at 5:30 p.m. for picnicking and entertainment. Tickets are $20 for adults. Children under 18 are free.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Valley Cultural Center's Movies on the Green screens the 2011 Adventures of Tin Tin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills. The PG-rated Steven Spielberg film tells the story of Tintin, a reporter, and Captain Haddock as they search for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock's anncestor. The event is free.

Radio Disney's Back-to-School Celebration: This is geared to children ages 2 to 12, and will include make-and-take crafts, face painting, dancing, dancing, and a chance to win a $500 Northridge Fashion Center gift card.  Radio Disney’s Road Crew will be giving away Park Hopper Passes to Disneyland and Disneyland’s California Adventures. The free event takes place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sears at the Northridge Fashion Center, 9301 Tampa Ave., Northridge.

Springsteen Tribute: Bruce in the USA performs a free Bruce Springsteen tribute concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills. The event is part of the Valley Cultural Center's Concerts on the Green series.
