Local inventor competing in Walmart's Get On The Shelf contest with new American-made product
Los Angeles, CA (August 6, 2013) – Mona Horowitz, of Los Angeles, has entered her company's new premier product, the HairHOG™ disposable drain filter, into a competition developed by @WalmartLabs that gives entrepreneurs a chance to sell their products on Walmart.com and potentially in Walmart stores.
HairHOG is a fast, convenient and hygienic disposable drain filter that fits all standard 1"-1.75" bathtub and sink drains.

The first of its kind, this patent-pending disposable filter helps prevent clogs in bathtubs and sinks. It is the only disposable strainer to fit all styles of bathtub and sink drains with and without stoppers! HairHOG is an entirely new concept in drain strainers because it traps hair all the way through, not just on its surface. It has a matrix of thousands of tiny waterproof fibers that capture five times more hair and debris than old style strainers. Because HairHOG is disposable, consumers never have to clean another clogged mesh strainer of tangled hair, soap scum, oils, skin debris and bacteria.
HairHOG can save consumers the cost of expensive plumbers’ service calls and eliminate the need for corrosive chemicals drain openers, which are hazardous to old plumbing. HairHOG can even prevent the accidental loss of jewelry down the drain.

The product has already made it through the initial stage of Get On The Shelf with its video entry and moved into the Audition Round, where the public votes online for their favorite product. Walmart will use vote totals as an indicator of public support, to help give them an idea of products’ commercial viability.
Voting runs from now through September 2. The public may vote once per day per product.
Ms. Horowitz is counting on people to vote daily at https://getontheshelf.walmart.com/product/13a3/HairHOG~Disposable-Drain or by following the link on HairHOG.com to push her product through to the next round.
Walmart merchants will then select up to 20 product finalists and feature them in an original web series produced by VIMBY, The Mark Burnett Digital Studio. The public will vote again to determine each week’s winning item. Through this process, up to five winning products will be chosen to be sold on Walmart.com. One or more of these winners will be selected as a grand prize winner based on the number of online pre-orders from customers, and could potentially be sold in select Walmart stores.
“Winning this competition would be life changing,” said Mona Horowitz, owner of Neat Stuff Innovations and inventor of the HairHOG. “Walmart is the top retail distributor and this would place HairHOG in front of millions of consumers.”
This is the second year Walmart has run the Get On The Shelf competition. Last year’s contest attracted more than 5,000 entries, and more than one million votes from across the country.
“Walmart is giving them exposure to millions of potential customers,” said Joel Anderson, President and CEO of Walmart.com. “Get On The Shelf taps into the spirit of American innovation and gives our customers a voice in selecting the products that will help them live better. ”
For this year’s contest, Walmart says it has a special interest in seeing products made in the U.S. as part of its domestic sourcing commitment. HairHOG is manufactured in the United States. In addition, Neat Stuff Innovations is a California certified Women Owned Business.
Consumers can currently buy a package of seven HairHOG disposable drain filters for about $3.99 at select retail stores and online at HairHOG.com.
Neat Stuff Innovations currently has distributor opportunities for HairHOG. Call 818-920-8530 for wholesale information.
