Inter Valley Health Plan Hosts Healthy Brain Conference

POMONA, Calif., March 1, 2016 – As part of its existing For Health and Living’s Bee Brainy initiative launched earlier this year, Inter Valley Health Plan (www.IVHP.com), will host a free Healthy Brain conference, in conjunction with Hillcrest Retirement Community, to be held in La Verne on March 19 from 9am-12pm.

Inter Valley Health Plan, a not-for-profit Medicare Advantage Health Plan based in the Inland Empire is committed to enhancing the mind, body and spirit of the older adult community in Southern Calif. The Healthy Brain conference will focus on four core areas of brain health including memory, music as it relates to memory, how a brain functions and foods to maintain a healthy brain.

“We couldn’t be happier to see our Bee Brainy program take shape with numerous initiatives developed for the year,” says Cyndie O’Brien, vice president of member services, Inter Valley Health Plan and creator of the Bee Brainy program. “This conference stands out because we get to bring in experts to discuss very important topics that we must all be educated on in order to achieve optimal health well after 50.”

Speakers and topics to be discussed include:

· The keynote speaker for the conference will be Azhar Majeed, MD, who practices internal medicine in Pomona, Calif. He will discuss the anatomy of the brain, what is typical for an aging brain and when to worry.

· Candice Fagan, Community Liaison for Inter Valley Health Plan will present on brain food and clarify common misconceptions about healthy diets.

· Ryan Harrison, PsyD, DAAIM, CWP, Director of Resident Life & Wellness at Hillcrest Retirement Community will discuss the connection between music and memory.

· Timothy Dauwalder MD, who serves as the VNA of Southern California Medical Director will bring in his expertise on the topic of Dementia and how to cope.
