Thrashers Offense Explodes in Key Conference Game

The local team won 13-3 and comes home to Pierce College Thursday and Saturday for doubleheaders against the Palm Springs Power and the Long Beach Legends starting at 1 p.m.

The Los Angeles Thrashers (6-5, 3-4) offense exploded immediately against the Long Beach Legends (19-10, 5-4) in the teams’ Monday afternoon contest at Long Beach City College. The Thrashers won 13-3.

In the top of the first inning, the Southern California Collegiate Baseball team batted around, scoring four runs—a lead they would never relinquish.

Matt Redfearn led the game off with a triple and finished with four hits. Spencer Reed belted an RBI to score Redfearn. Vincent Perry crushed a two-RBI base hit scoring Jack Heidelman and Reed. Nicholas Bobbs ripped another RBI scoring Josh Surdo to give the Thrashers a 4-0 lead.

The Legends finally got on the board in the fourth, but the Thrashers answered in the fifth inning batting around the lineup for the second time in the game, this time scoring five runs.

Bobbs led off with a double and scored. Cody Heaton walked and scored. Redfearn singled and scored. Heidelman had a two-run double and Surdo blasted an RBI single scoring Heidelman to extend the Thrasher lead to 12-1.

The Legends fought back with two more runs to cut the deficit to 12-3, but that was as close as they got.

The Thrashers finished the scoring in the seventh when Reed added his second RBI of the day scoring Dye.

Lucas Whitehill picked up the win, striking out four in five innings. Blake Sack tossed three innings and Daniel Skahill slammed the door shut in the ninth.

The Thrashers host the Palm Springs Power in a doubleheader Thursday at Pierce College starting at 1 p.m.
