The gunfire was reported at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 4900 block of Medina Drive, said Capt. Paul Vernon of the Los Angeles Police Department's Topanga Station. The 37-year-old man's name was not immediately released.

"After examining the crime scene, it appears the victim knew his assailants," Vernon said. "We aren't sure, yet, what's behind this man's shooting, but cases like this often stem from business or domestic disputes."The victim's wife and 9-year-old daughter were at the home at the time of the shooting, which occurred outside the house, but on the property, police said

"The wife and daughter had remained in the house and were not targeted," Vernon said. "Tips from acquaintances of the victim often break cases like these. So we're hoping some person ... might come forward soon and point us in the right direction."
