Good morning, Woodland Hills! It's Friday and here are a few bits of information to start the day.
- The 2012 Summer Olympics kicks off today. The four-hour opening ceremony will be televised on NBC, but won't be aired live. Coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. Pacific time (but start at 9 p.m. London time, or 1 p.m. here in Woodland Hills). If you want some company while watching, the White Harte Pub is having an Olympics Day beginning at 11:30 a.m., according to its Facebook page. Wear colors for your favorite country or outfits for your favorite sports. The pub is located at 22456 Ventura Blvd. (If you know of other Olympics happenings, feel free to add them in the comments section!)
- Tomorrow, July 28, the Valley Cultural Center's Movies on the Green series will screen the last known footage of Michael Jackson. The 112-minute movie documents rehearsals of Jackson's planned concert tour in 2009 and will begin at 7 p.m. at Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd. The event is free.
- Then on Sunday, the cultural center will host the PettyBreakers, a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute band, at 6 p.m. at Warner Center Park. This event is also free.
- Accoding to the National Weather Service, Woodland Hills' high today will be about 88 degrees, with a low of about 56 degrees overnight.
- The lowest price of gas in Woodland Hills, according to GasBuddy.com, is $3.67 per gallon. Find it at the Arco station at 22004 Clarendon St. at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and the Thrifty station at 6000 N. Canoga Ave. at Oxnard Street.
