1. Part of Baseline Road will close for 3 months amid construction east of Boulder (dailycamera.com) — Baseline Road near Baseline Reservoir east of Boulder will fully close for about three months starting Monday, shutting the stretch between Westview Drive and 75th Street while a bridge is replaced. Drivers, RTD riders, trail users, and Nevin Platt Middle School families will all need to adjust routes, with Dry Creek Trail and nearby bus stops also temporarily closed or detoured.
2. Looming Boulder parking lot sale raises worries for local minister (dailycamera.com) — A proposed sale of a small city-owned parking lot at 2121 Broadway for a boutique hotel has a Boulder minister worried about access for elderly congregants and vulnerable people served by First Congregational Church. City Council, meeting Thursday evening at the Penfield Tate II Municipal Building, will hold a public hearing as it considers the $5.8 million deal and its promised public gathering space and community benefits.
3. West Nile Virus Returns Every Summer. Here's Why Boulder County Can't Eliminate the Risk (longmontleader.com) — Boulder County health officials have confirmed this summer's first human West Nile case, involving a Longmont resident likely bitten at home, and warn that infected mosquitoes can be found countywide. They explain why the virus can't be fully eliminated and urge residents to use repellents, remove standing water, and take extra precautions at dawn and dusk.
4. LURA approves tax agreements for 1st and Main redevelopment (dailycamera.com) — Longmont's Urban Renewal Authority has approved key tax-increment financing deals to help fund the 1st and Main Transit Center, including a major agreement with Boulder County that could direct millions toward public improvements. Construction work is slated to start this fall, with parking, bus facilities, and street extensions all tied to the new financing structure.
5. One of Colorado's most storied art families joined forces for a Boulder exhibit (rmpbs.org) — A powerful new exhibit at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art brings together three generations of a Denver Chicano art family, exploring migration, identity, and heritage in a deeply personal way. On display through Sept. 13, it also coincides with BMoCA securing $1.5 million for a new north Boulder campus aimed at better serving underrepresented communities here.
