Boulder Repeals 100% Energy-Offset Requirement for Marijuana Cultivators as Industry Shrinks (themarijuanaherald.com) — Boulder City Council has repealed its rule requiring marijuana cultivators to offset 100% of their electricity use, ending a program that once generated up to $500,000 a year for the Energy Impact Offset Fund. With only nine licensed cultivators left and shrinking revenue, staff argued the mandate now offers limited environmental benefit compared with the administrative work it requires, leading to unanimous approval of Ordinance 8770.
3. Longmont's Only Domestic Violence Shelter Faces Closure, Needs Funding to Stay Open (longmontleader.com) — Boulder County's domestic violence response network is at risk as Longmont's only shelter, a key partner to Boulder-based SPAN and the county's DV Acute Response Team, must raise $295,000 by year's end to stay open. Without Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley, Boulder County officials warn survivors across the county could lose critical emergency beds, advocacy, and housing support.
4. Alito's Oklahoma oil ties fuel recusal calls in climate case (journalrecord.com) — Boulder's high-profile climate deception lawsuit against Suncor is drawing extra scrutiny as watchdogs urge Justice Samuel Alito to recuse because of his family's oil-linked mineral lease and energy stock holdings. Advocates argue those ties could be affected by the outcome of Suncor v. Boulder, which the Supreme Court will hear October 5.
5. Climate at the Supreme Court: Suncor v. Boulder (jdsupra.com) — Boulder and Boulder County's climate deception lawsuit against Suncor and other oil companies is now headed to the U.S. Supreme Court, with arguments set for October 5, 2026. The case could decide whether local governments like Boulder can use state tort law to seek damages for alleged climate-related misrepresentation by fossil fuel companies.
