Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Boulder County rental aid for 24 households is funded through 2026 (thebadger.news) — Rental assistance for 24 Boulder County households using Emergency Housing Vouchers is secured through December 31, 2026, but funding beyond then remains uncertain. Housing Authority staff are working with HUD and Boulder Housing Partners on backup options, while pausing new vouchers and lotteries to protect current tenants as they navigate a projected shortfall.
2. Boulder's pedal-cab licensing regs in effect as of Saturday (bizwest.com) — Starting Saturday, operating a pedal-cab business in Boulder without a city license becomes illegal, so local operators must get approved quickly. Agencies and drivers now need to complete city applications, pass background and driving checks, show insurance, and pay fees before hitting the streets under the new ordinance.
3. Boulder County shells out $11.2 million to help residents buy their mobile home park (kdvr.com) — Boulder County commissioners have committed $11.2 million to help residents of San Lazaro Park in northeast Boulder buy their mobile home community and keep it affordable. Residents still need to raise about $13 million more and secure a loan before an early December deadline, or a private buyer's $42.5 million offer could move forward and potentially raise lot rents significantly.
4. Boulder's library district is cutting 20% of its staff. How did it get here? (boulderreportinglab.org) — Boulder's library district is planning to cut about 20% of its staff after a $2.5 million budget shortfall, raising questions about which programs and services residents may lose. Lower-than-expected property tax revenue, rising personnel and maintenance costs, and aging city-owned buildings are squeezing the system just two years after voters approved a district expected to expand library funding.
5. City Invites Boulder Students to Name a Snowplow (bouldercolorado.gov) — Boulder students from pre-K through university can help name 17 city snowplows for the 2026–27 winter, with winning names painted on the trucks and a photo-op on November 14. Entries are due by Sunday, Oct. 18, and the city is encouraging playful, snow- and film-inspired puns from anyone studying within Boulder's city limits.
