Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Skunk Canyon Fire reported in Boulder; firefighters establish line around blaze (boulderreportinglab.org) — Fire crews quickly responded Wednesday morning to the Skunk Canyon Fire in Boulder's foothills near NCAR, cutting a line around the small 0.1-acre blaze and asking visitors to steer clear while they work. No trails are closed yet and no evacuations were ordered, even as firefighters continue containing both this fire and the larger Dry Creek Fire elsewhere in Boulder County.
2. Boulder to use AI for non-emergency calls; new safety center offers drone response capabilities (denver7.com) — Boulder is rolling out an AI system to handle all non-emergency calls and opening a new Public Safety Information Center that can dispatch drones to incidents, aiming to free human dispatchers for true emergencies. Officials say no jobs will be cut, while new cameras and drone tools will help police and fire better assess threats and fires, with privacy safeguards promised for residents.
3. Boulder farmers say housing rules are costing them workers (bucketlistcommunitynews.com) — Farmers in Boulder County, including Jacob Springs Farm and The Golden Hoof in Boulder, say strict housing rules are driving away badly needed farmworkers as rents climb. County officials are surveying farmers through Oct. 30 and planning a December hearing on possible land-use code changes that could allow more flexible options like ADUs, tiny homes, and RVs for agricultural workers.
4. Colorado's 2026–27 Winter Season Brings New Ski Lifts, Sundance's Boulder Debut and Fresh Mountain Experiences (travelprnews.com) — Boulder is gearing up to host the 2027 Sundance Film Festival, with venues like Chautauqua Auditorium, Boulder Theater and CU spaces being upgraded and new hotels and restaurants opening around town. For locals, that means more visitors, expanded transit links with Denver, and a busier winter season where film, dining, and nightlife join skiing as major regional draws.
5. Sundance Film Festival offers Utahns discounted tickets for its first year in Boulder (parkrecord.com) — Boulder is set to host the Sundance Film Festival for the first time in 2027, shifting the long-running event from Utah to Colorado. While the current ticket discount is only for Utah residents and online access, the move signals a major cultural and economic moment ahead for Boulder's venues, hospitality businesses, and film fans.
