1. Boulder County Proposes Ban on Large Data Centers in Unincorporated Areas (longmontleader.com) — Boulder County is weighing new land-use rules that would effectively ban large data centers and detention facilities in unincorporated areas, a move that could reshape where energy-hungry projects locate. Smaller data centers could still be allowed under new standards, while additional amendments address detention facilities, growth management and long-term water planning ahead of Planning Commission hearings on October 21.
2. How Boulder Is Using Drones to Transform Emergency Response (governing.com) — Boulder's Police Department has launched a new Public Safety Information Center that uses drones and live camera feeds to respond faster to emergencies and major local events like the Bolder Boulder. City fire, rangers, and other departments will tap into the system, while civil-liberties experts and residents debate how the technology balances improved safety with privacy protections and strict usage policies.
3. Passes for Boulder's Sundance Film Festival go on sale Oct. 15 (kygo.com) — Boulder will host the 2027 Sundance Film Festival January 21–31, turning the city into a nearby destination for film lovers who usually travel out of state. Local residents should mark October 15 for pass and package sales, with single-film tickets available January 8 and both in-person and online screenings planned.
4. Boulder and Longmont-area scores and highlights from Week 7 football (About Last Night) (dailycamera.com) — Boulder High's narrow 8–7 win over Westminster snapped a four-game skid, and the Panthers now host powerhouse Monarch in a home matchup this Friday. The roundup also highlights big wins and shutouts for nearby programs including Broomfield, Monarch, Mead, Holy Family, Frederick and others, giving Boulder fans a clear look at league standings and what's coming next week.
5. Early-bird discount ends Sunday for Boulder Valley Real Estate Conference (bizwest.com) — If you work in or follow Boulder Valley real estate, you have until late Sunday night to grab discounted registration for November's Boulder Valley Real Estate Conference at the Limelight Hotel. Speakers will dig into local housing trends, commercial projects, the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan, and even how Sundance's move to Boulder could reshape short-term rentals and storefronts.
