1. Colorado Springs completing curb ramps years ahead of pace after lawsuit settlement (gazette.com) — Colorado Springs is finishing 15,000 ADA curb ramps years ahead of its 2033 legal deadline, dramatically improving sidewalk access across the city. Funded largely by the voter-approved 2C sales tax and other transportation programs, the work has flipped compliance from about 30% to roughly 70%, with ongoing audits, public reporting, and training to keep streets accessible for wheelchair users and other residents.
2. Labor Day Lift Off kicks off three days of balloon flights in Colorado Springs (gazette.com) — Labor Day Lift Off is filling Colorado Springs' Memorial Park with more than 70 colorful hot air balloons through Monday, drawing thousands of residents and visitors. Families can catch morning and evening sessions, enjoy unique specialty balloons like the chile-pepper-themed La Ristra, and check the event website for the full schedule of launches and activities.
3. Labor Day travelers face record high gas prices in Colorado (kktv.com subscription) — If you're filling up in Colorado Springs this Labor Day weekend, expect to pay around $4.12 a gallon for regular gas, part of record-high holiday prices statewide. Despite the pinch at the pump, many travelers say they're sticking with their plans and simply absorbing the extra cost.
4. Colorado Springs Utilities Provides Update on Transmission Projects (publicpower.org) — Colorado Springs Utilities is investing about $93 million in new transmission lines and substation upgrades to strengthen electric reliability for local customers. Projects linking Kelker, South Plant, Nixon, Fountain, and Bradley substations, including an underground segment near downtown, aim to harden the grid against severe weather and wildfire risks while supporting the city's shift to a more diverse energy mix.
5. Pine Creek vs Castle View (maxpreps.com) — Pine Creek High School's boys soccer team from Colorado Springs edged Castle View 2–1 in a non-league matchup, giving the Eagles their first win of the season. Pine Creek now heads to face Air Academy on Tuesday, while The Classical Academy of Colorado Springs looks to rebound after a 6–1 loss to the Kadets.
