📰 News we're reading

1. One dead after three-car crash in eastern Colorado Springs (koaa.com) — A person was killed and another injured in a three-car crash Saturday at Constitution Avenue and Murray Boulevard in eastern Colorado Springs, according to city police. Investigators are still working the case and say speed and alcohol are being examined as possible factors, so drivers in the area should expect an ongoing presence and use extra caution at that intersection.

2. Meet Barry! The HSPPR Pet of the week (krdo.com) — A Colorado Springs shelter is waiving Barry the dog's adoption fee this weekend, giving local families a chance to bring home a one-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix. Staff say he's great on a leash, loves treats, and does best without cats or small animals. You can meet him and other adoptable pets in person at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

3. City of Colorado Springs working through multi-year backlog of sidewalk and concrete repairs (kktv.com) — Colorado Springs is tackling a massive backlog of sidewalk and concrete repairs, with more than 6,000 open service requests and an estimated $150 million in sidewalk work still ahead. City officials say new funding from 2C and PPRTA is helping crews fix curbs, ramps, and sidewalks in neighborhoods like Roswell and along Palmer Park, though residents may still face waits or use a cost-sharing program to speed repairs.

4. Apartment vacancies decrease, rents rise slightly in Colorado Springs (gazette.com) — Renters in Colorado Springs are seeing slightly higher prices as apartment vacancies edge down and the local market firms up after a construction boom. Recent reports show modest rent growth that now outpaces state and national trends, while new building permits and high interest rates are slowing future apartment supply and could keep more residents renting instead of buying.

5. Briggeman: Small things come up big for Air Force in victory over Navy (gazette.com) — Air Force's 14-9 win over Navy at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs showcased how much the Falcons' defense and timing have improved, with key plays from safety Max Mustell and quarterback Liam Szarka. Coaches and players describe how film study, smarter blitzes, and sharper route recognition are turning close games into wins as Air Force heads back into Mountain West play.
