1. CSFD gets two new fire engines to replace aging engines (fox21news.com) — Colorado Springs residents will soon see two new fire engines joining CSFD's fleet, replacing aging trucks and filling gaps left by mechanical failures and a crash. Ordered in 2023, the highly specialized engines reflect the department's strategy of long-term planning and intensive maintenance rather than frequent replacements, aimed at keeping neighborhood fire response reliable across the city.
2. ON THE LOOKOUT: Michael John Atwood, wanted for failure to appear (krdo.com) — Colorado Springs police are asking for your help finding 51-year-old Michael John Atwood, who fled before his sentencing on narcotics-related charges and now has a felony failure-to-appear warrant plus two misdemeanors. He's believed to frequent both Colorado Springs and Castle Rock and may be living in an RV or vehicle. Tips to Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers can be anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
3. Colorado Springs' preliminary 2027 budget tops $1 billion (gazette.com) — Colorado Springs' proposed 2027 city budget would top $1.02 billion, boosting funding for public safety, city staff pay, and delayed vehicle and capital needs. City Council will review the plan through October, with public comments on Oct. 26 and final approval expected by late November, shaping services residents rely on daily.
4. Colorado Springs commission to review driveway adjustment for 122-home plan (thebadger.news) — Colorado Springs' Planning Commission will revisit a request on Oct. 14 to allow much shorter driveways for some homes in the proposed 122-home Kettle Creek development near Old Ranch and Kettle Creek roads. The decision could affect neighborhood parking rules, traffic flow, and stormwater management, as the plan also outlines road changes, shared detention facilities, and habitat protections that are still only proposed, not finally approved.
5. Colorado Springs boxing gym helps people living with Parkinson's (krdo.com) — Residents living with Parkinson's in Colorado Springs are finding strength and community at Rock Steady Boxing, a local gym focused on non-contact boxing workouts. Owner Bill O'Donnell, who also has Parkinson's, leads challenging training that helps participants physically and emotionally while creating a supportive space where members feel like they're winning each time they show up.
