Today's riddle: What do you call somebody who crosses the ocean twice and doesn't take a bath? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Colorado Springs proposes $396 million wastewater expansion as system nears capacity (thebadger.news) — Colorado Springs Utilities is planning a $396 million wastewater expansion that could shape local development and service reliability through 2030, as the current system may hit capacity by 2028. The Milton Proby Interceptor would add 17 miles of pipeline and two lift stations, funded through revenue bonds, base rates, and developer contributions, with regional officials now weighing the proposal.
2. Water service restored to southeast Colorado Springs neighborhood, aging infrastructure likely to blame for water main break (kktv.com) — Water service is back on for homes in southeast Colorado Springs after Friday's water main break near Airport Road and Murray Boulevard, but Murray will stay closed between Airport and Dewey through Thursday for road repairs. Expect detours and slowdowns in that area, and use extra caution around crews as Colorado Springs Utilities works on the aging infrastructure.
3. Colorado Springs area nonprofit fundraising events starting Oct. 11 (gazette.com) — A full slate of nonprofit fundraisers is coming up across Colorado Springs, from car shows and golf tournaments to breakfasts, fashion shows, and Halloween galas. Many events start today and continue through November, supporting groups like Habitat for Humanity, NAMI Colorado Springs, Home Front Military Network, and local children's and education charities. Most include online registration or ticket links for residents to join in.
4. One facing life-threatening injuries after 3-vehicle crash in southeast Colorado Springs (kktv.com) — A three-vehicle crash at South Circle Drive and East Pikes Peak Avenue in Colorado Springs sent three people to the hospital Saturday morning, including one with life-threatening injuries. Police say a driver ran a red light, triggering the collision, but speed and alcohol are not currently suspected. CSPD has not yet said whether any citations or charges will follow.
5. Citizens Project hosts spooky voter education event in Colorado Springs (fox21news.com) — Colorado Springs voters just got a creative boost from Citizens Project, which hosted a free Halloween-themed "Fright for Your Rights" event downtown to help residents understand this November's lengthy ballot. Attendees brought ballots and blue books, asked questions of advocates, and enjoyed food and performances in a nonpartisan setting designed to make voting feel less intimidating and more informed.
