📰 News we're reading

1. No charges to be filed against officers after Denver shooting (kdvr.com) — Denver's district attorney has decided not to file charges against an Adams County sergeant and a Colorado State Patrol investigator involved in a June shooting at a gas station near West 6th Avenue and Santa Fe Drive. Officials ruled the officers acted in self-defense after firing at a man holding a gun-shaped lighter; he survived, was treated at Denver Health, and now faces multiple charges.

2. Denver Fire Handles Four Significant Incidents in Three-Hours (denvergov.org) — Within just three hours, Denver firefighters tackled four major calls, including apartment and house fires plus a restaurant blaze that spread into the roof, along with a box truck crashing into a home. No serious injuries were reported, and officials say the quick, coordinated response across Denver Fire, police, and 911 shows the city's emergency services are prepared for multiple complex incidents at once.

3. Denver neighborhood raising questions about a family shelter coming to their neighborhood (kdvr.com) — A new family shelter is planned for a former halfway house at Columbine Street and East 43rd Avenue in Denver's Elyria-Swansea neighborhood, potentially opening later this year for up to 20 families. Neighbors and local leaders are debating whether the area is appropriate, while Denver's housing department says it will keep meeting with residents as the zoning use permit process moves forward.

4. Why Denver's luxury housing market had its best summer in years (denverpost.com) — Denver's high-end housing market is bucking the broader slowdown, with $1 million-plus homes selling faster and in greater numbers than last year despite high interest rates. Local agents say serious, well-financed buyers and realistic pricing are driving strong luxury sales, even as median-priced homes cool and some oversized or dated properties linger longer on the market.

5. Aurora celebrates BRT progress in arch-lifting party (denvergazette.com) — East Colfax's new Bus Rapid Transit line is moving forward, with Aurora hosting an arch-lifting celebration Monday while construction continues on the Denver segments. When finished, buses will run in center lanes from Denver's Union Station to Yosemite Street, promising faster trips, upgraded stations, and better walking and biking connections for Denver and Aurora riders by early 2028.
