📰 News we're reading

1. Coorstek makes historical bottle-making discovery during renovations (krdo.com subscription) — Renovation of the historic Coorstek buildings at 9th and Washington in Golden has uncovered intact 1880s Coors glass beer bottles, filling a major gap in the company's archives. The work is part of transforming the old factory into the Clayworks mixed-use community, which will eventually bring new housing, offices, parking, and retail to downtown Golden.

2. Arvada West softball ends losing streak by putting up 28 runs in win over Golden (coloradopreps.com) — Golden High School's softball team erupted for 11 first-inning runs but ultimately fell 28–18 at Arvada West in a wild non-league matchup. The Demons now turn to 4A/3A Jeffco League play, hosting Conifer this Friday, with several seniors leading a young roster after heavy graduation losses.

3. Produce or Gold Dust (goldentoday.com) — Early Golden shopkeepers often took gold dust or farm goods instead of scarce cash, even keeping scales handy to weigh payments. An 1869 Colorado Transcript issue shows local businesses and the paper itself happily trading pottery, produce, wheat, and oats, offering a glimpse into how Golden's frontier economy really worked.

4. Outstanding Attorneys Beyond Denver: Christopher Anderson (lawweekcolorado.com) — A Golden-based family law firm, New Leaf Family, is being recognized for reshaping how divorce and custody cases are handled, using flat-fee subscriptions and future-focused planning instead of billable hours and courtroom battles. Founder Christopher Anderson runs the rapidly growing practice from Golden while serving clients statewide and supporting legal-aid and anti-trafficking nonprofits.

5. What It's Like to Fall 500 Feet Down the Maroon Bells Traverse (outsideonline.com) — A Colorado hiker who moved to Golden to attend Colorado School of Mines describes surviving a 500-foot fall on the Maroon Bells Traverse and the long recovery that followed. His story blends graphic details of the rescue and surgeries with reflections on risk, resilience, and why he still believes in getting outside responsibly.
