1. Latin-Anglo Alliance golf tournament to benefit students (westernslopenow.com) — Grand Junction readers can tee off for local students at the Latin-Anglo Alliance's 54th annual scholarship golf tournament on Sept. 19 at Adobe Creek. The long-running event has already awarded hundreds of thousands in aid and will feature a family-friendly day with prizes, a Mexican-style lunch, and chances to sponsor teams or donate.
   

2. Grand Junction Football begins season in new league with very, very familiar opponent (kkco11news.com) — Grand Junction High and Central kick off football season with an in-town rivalry at Stocker Stadium, just 5.6 miles apart and tied 3–3 over the last decade. The matchup also launches Grand Junction's jump from 4A to 5A, where the Tigers will face bigger programs like Loveland and Greeley West, while Central readies for more Western Slope opponents at Stocker.
   

3. Mesa County commissioner recognized for federal health policy work (kkco11news.com) — A Mesa County commissioner based in Grand Junction is being honored for national-level work to improve rural health care, especially behavioral health. His role on a federal health policy committee is helping bring funding and attention to mental health and substance abuse programs that directly support Mesa County residents.
   

4. Construction progressing on new Wild West Express chairlift at Powderhorn (kjct8.com) — Grand Junction-area skiers will see a major upgrade at Powderhorn this winter as the old west-side lift is replaced with the faster Wild West Express high-speed quad. Resort officials say the new chair will cut ride times, boost capacity, and open underused west-side terrain to more guests by mid-December, weather permitting.
