• Two Mesa County deputies identified in death investigation (westernslopenow.com) — Mesa County officials have identified two sheriff's deputies involved in the custody incident that preceded the death of 57-year-old Grand Junction resident Johnny Herrera. Carbajal and Tinkle are on administrative leave while the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team investigates, and the coroner continues to determine Herrera's cause and manner of death. The Grand Junction Police Department is handling public updates.
• Mudslide, Hwy 141 at Mile 115 and 125 (junctionnow.com) — Drivers around Grand Junction should be aware that a mudslide with large boulders has made Highway 141 impassable between mile markers 115 and 128 as of Sunday evening. CDOT crews with plows and loaders, along with local residents using tractors, are working to clear the road and detour traffic. Details may change as officials release more information.
• NA Now: Grand Junction River Hawks (nahl.com) — A new junior hockey team, the Grand Junction River Hawks, is gearing up for its inaugural NAHL season with first-year head coach Dustin Timm emphasizing a player-led culture. The team, based in Grand Junction, aims to represent the community well as it joins the Mountain Division this fall. Fans can expect a focus on character, standards, and building a lasting local hockey identity.
