Driver Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run (junctionnow.com) β An arrest has been made in the hit-and-run that killed 18-year-old Grand Junction resident Serenity Murphy, with a 37-year-old man now facing multiple vehicular homicide and DUI charges. The crash happened near Westland Avenue and D Road on September 13, and police are still seeking additional witnesses or information. 2. Avatar Offroad relocating headquarters to Grand Junction (kjct8.com) β A Utah-based company, Avatar Offroad, is moving its headquarters to Grand Junction, promising about 40 new outdoor manufacturing jobs over the next eight years. Supported by state and local incentives, including Rural Jump-Start tax benefits, the move strengthens Mesa County's growing outdoor industry and creates internship and job opportunities for Colorado Mesa University students.

Grand Junction seeks art for Botanical Gardens greenhouse (westernslopenow.com) β Grand Junction is inviting artists to propose public art for a greenhouse next to the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens, with proposals due Oct. 18. Funded through the city's 1% for the Arts Program, the project welcomes many media and styles, and selected work will be installed in December 2026, adding a new cultural feature for residents and visitors.

4. Grand Junction hosts fifth annual Water Lights at Night (westernslopenow.com) β Grand Junction residents can look forward to the free Water Lights at Night celebration at Butterfly Pond in Las Colonias Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 5β8 p.m. You can pre-purchase lantern kits, enjoy food trucks and music, float illuminated messages, and catch a special drone show, with proceeds supporting local Parks and Recreation programs and the GJ Plays Foundation.

5. Clifton Fire District Advances Two-Station Plans (junctionnow.com) β Clifton Fire Protection District says its new main station at 32 Road and D Road, plus a second northern station, is still on track, with visible construction expected to begin in early 2027. Funded by a voterβapproved sales tax, the project is now in rezoning and planning, and officials are promising regular updates to residents in Clifton and the Grand Junction area.
