📰 News we're reading

1. Colorado officials outline 8-project portfolio projected to produce 1,600 homes (thebadger.news) — State officials are advancing two major Lakewood housing concepts, including ArtLine Village and a large workforce project near the Red Rocks Community College station, that together could add hundreds of homes and child-care options. Both hinge on new zoning approvals, community input, and complex financing, but they could significantly shape Lakewood's housing supply and long-term state revenue if they move forward.

2. Denver-area home sales fell 14.3% in August as condo sales declined more sharply (thebadger.news) — Lakewood's townhouse and condo market cooled sharply, with sales dropping 41.5% in August compared with last year, even as prices and listings shifted across the Denver metro area. Overall, Denver-area home sales fell 14.3%, inventory tightened, and condos and townhomes saw steeper slowdowns than single-family houses, signaling a tougher environment for attached-home sellers in Lakewood.

3. Unchecked Authority: Denver security company hired two fired Colorado police officers for taxpayer-funded jobs (denver7.com) — Lakewood residents should know their police department is reviewing its contract with Denver Metro Security after learning a fired Aurora officer worked a prisoner watch for Lakewood Police at St. Anthony Hospital. The broader investigation reveals multiple cities, including Aurora and Parker, paying the company millions for prisoner watches staffed by former officers fired over misconduct, raising oversight and accountability questions about taxpayer-funded security work.

4. Aaron Gordon on Peyton Watson's exit: 'Deeper than basketball' (denversports.com) — Aaron Gordon spoke to reporters about the Denver Nuggets' offseason while hosting a youth basketball camp in Lakewood, giving local kids a close-up with an NBA star. He shared candid thoughts on Peyton Watson's departure, his own health, and how he's trying to keep the team connected heading into training camp in Boulder later this month.
