Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. National labor board will take Casa Bonita management to court (denverite.com) — Casa Bonita's long-running labor dispute in Lakewood is headed to federal court in December, as the National Labor Relations Board accuses management of retaliating against performers and refusing to bargain in good faith. The entertainers' union says workers have endured cut hours, stalled negotiations, and inadequate protections from harassment, while the restaurant's owners decline to discuss their legal strategy.
2. Free Hispanic Heritage Month Festivals Bring Food, Mariachi Music & Family Activities to Denver Area (milehighonthecheap.com) — Lakewood families can enjoy a free Fiesta Fridays Hispanic Heritage celebration at PNC Bank on South Wadsworth Boulevard on Friday, Oct. 16, from 3–6 p.m. Expect tacos, ice cream, cultural dance performances, giveaways, and a chance for kids to meet West Metro firefighters and explore a fire truck. Similar free events are also planned in Thornton and Aurora.
3. Voter guide 2026: Jeffco Public Schools Ballot Issues 5A and 5B (chalkbeat.org) — Jefferson County voters, including those in Lakewood, will decide in November whether to approve Ballot Issues 5A and 5B, raising $133 million in school property taxes. The measures would boost pay for Jeffco educators, expand career and technical programs, fund charter schools, and tackle long-deferred building repairs, while costing homeowners about $42 per $100,000 of home value.
4. Why is Colorado's Addenbrooke Classical Academy being sued? (themarysue.com) — A former student has filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit against Addenbrooke Classical Academy in Lakewood, alleging repeated racist harassment by classmates and inadequate action by school leaders. The case claims the school concealed graffiti and threats, forcing the student into online schooling and lost opportunities, while the school and Jeffco Public Schools say they follow anti-discrimination laws and will address the matter in court.
5. 4 Colorado high school football games to watch in Week 7 (denverpost.com) — One of this week's marquee Colorado high school football matchups will kick off Friday night at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood, as Chatfield and ThunderRidge square off in a key 5A clash. The roundup also spotlights other big-school showdowns, including Fort Collins–Fairview and Cherry Creek–Northfield, with playoff implications for several Front Range programs.
