Dillon Landing, Wind Crest's Final Independent Living Residence Building, Opens

Carole and Dick Baumbusch love their new home in Dillon Landing, Wind Crest's final residence building.

This post was contributed by a community member.

Dick and Carole Baumbusch recently moved into Dillon Landing, the final independent living residence building at Wind Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Highlands Ranch, Colo.--and they're already making the most of their new lifestyle.

"We're much more socially active than we were before," says Carole. "We are very happy to be here, as we love our apartment, and more importantly, we love all the wonderful people we have met."

The perfect place

Dick and Carole began researching continuing care retirement communities with a plan to move years down the road--until they visited Wind Crest and discovered Dillon Landing.

"We anticipated moving in three to five years. But when we were offered a perfect apartment in the last new residence building, we decided to take it," Carole explains.

They chose a spacious two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home. "We love the layout of our apartment and the fact that it can accommodate our baby grand piano," says Carole. "We also love being on the terrace level, where we can exit our apartment to go directly outside."

Lots to do

Soon after settling in, the couple began exploring the many groups and events at Wind Crest.

Carole enjoys card games, so she's exploring opportunities to play bridge and mah-jongg with neighbors.

Together, they've taken classes through the Learners Group, a program that hosts regular lectures and presentations given by resident experts.

When they were Priority List members, Dick and Carole enjoyed attending the summer concert series at Wind Crest's outdoor amphitheater, which they look forward to continuing.

The couple also takes advantage of the range of fitness activities available.

"I work out at the fitness center for my own physical and mental health, and I love how close it is. It's so convenient that it's really hard to come up with an excuse not to go," Carole says, with a laugh.

On Saturday mornings, they play water volleyball with fellow residents in one of the pools on campus.

"It's so much fun! We really enjoy it. We laugh so much with other people," says Carole.

Top-notch restaurants

In Dillon Landing, all residences boast kitchens with brand-new, state-of-the-art appliances and quartz countertops.

But at Wind Crest, if residents don't want to cook, they don't have to. Ten top-notch restaurants--everything from a sit-down dinner to a bite at a fast-casual cafe--are just a short stroll away.

Dick and Carole have eaten at all of them. "We have had some really outstanding meals," says Carole.

The couple also appreciates how dining out at Wind Crest is an opportunity to catch up with friends and meet new people.

"We often arrange to go to dinner with one of our new neighbors or people we've known who lived here before we moved in," says Dick.

"We enjoy eating on campus for the ease as well as the opportunity to socialize," adds Carole. "We love interacting with the students who work as servers. They are fun, interesting, and engaging!"

Peace of mind

In addition to the activities and restaurants, Dick and Carole appreciate how convenient and comprehensive the on-campus medical center is.

Wind Crest's medical center is staffed by full-time physicians, physician assistants, medical assistants, and a licensed clinical social worker, enabling residents to care for their overall well-being.

Specialists such as cardiologists, audiologists, ophthalmologists, and dermatologists regularly visit the community as well.

Residents don't even have to leave campus to get a prescription! With the on-site CVS Pharmacy®, residents can pick them up or have them delivered to their homes.

"It's reassuring to know that the support services we may need are readily available. They're good, compassionate, caring professionals, and there is a degree of reassurance in all of that," says Carole.

Making new friends

Reflecting on their time at Wind Crest, Dick and Carole believe that the abundance of opportunities to make new friends is the greatest advantage of their move.

"We had friends when we were living in our house, but being at Wind Crest is different," says Carole.

"People here are in our same stage of life and active and healthy. Finding friends with the same interests as you is easy."

Dick agrees, saying, "The friendliness of our neighbors and the other residents is over-the-top impressive. Everyone is nice!"
