Longtime Friends move to Wind Crest

For years, Arun and Ravi Sheth have traveled the globe with a close-knit circle of friends. Six years ago, their adventures sparked a new idea: Finding a "home base" where they could live as neighbors and continue to explore the world together.

The couple, tasked with leading the search, knew they'd found their new home when they visited Wind Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

Home sweet home

The gated community boasts maintenance-free homes, making it easy to simply lock and go for trips. Once Arun and Ravi are packed, all they have to do is let security know that they're headed out the door.

Worries like potential leaks and damage from heavy storms are in the past, as staff members keep a close eye on residents' homes. Also, the community is well landscaped by the expert General Services team, meaning that residents never have to find someone to tame unruly grass and weeds while away.

The Sheths also appreciate that, if they decide to stay at home for a stretch of time, there are plenty of engaging clubs and activities available right on campus.

"So, when we discovered they were constructing a new building, we got on the Priority List right away," says Arun. Their group of friends all chose homes in Dillon Landing, which opened last year.

Lots to do

Soon after settling into their large two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home, Arun and Ravi started exploring everything Wind Crest has to offer. "There are a lot of different things we can do, and we are enjoying all the activities," says Ravi.

Arun uses the fitness center and is working on starting an investment discussion group. Ravi takes water aerobics classes two days a week at the aquatics center and is learning how to play mah-jongg.

Exploring locally

Together, the couple enjoys walking and hiking on trails in the community and along the Highline Canal.

"We are exploring a lot more," says Arun. "We both feel that we are doing a lot more walking and exercise. I personally feel more healthy."

They also enjoy attending educational classes through the Learners Group. In the future, Arun would like to teach a class on artificial intelligence.

Even with their busy new schedules, Arun and Ravi make time to get dinner nearly every day with their globe-trotting friends. "Whenever it's possible in the evening, we are often with our longtime friends," says Arun.

In fact, Wind Crest's range of restaurants was another draw for Arun and Ravi.

"We like the variety of choices at every restaurant. We also like that the restaurants are all vegetarian-friendly," explains Arun.

When they wanted to celebrate Ravi's 80th birthday with a large party on campus--including 50 visiting guests--Dining staff members made it happen in a private room.

"We were really happy with their help. They did everything. We didn't have to worry at all. They have different items and a vegetarian menu, so we were able to select whatever we wanted," says Ravi.

"They did a great job. Everyone who attended was very happy too!"

Making new friends

While Arun and Ravi love having their longtime friends down the hall, meeting new people and making new friends has been a highlight of life at Wind Crest.

"Everyone in Dillon Landing is new. We're all trying to learn about each other," says Arun, noting that all residents in the building have quarterly dinners together.

"We feel like they are extended family," adds Ravi.

When neighbors find out the couple is originally from India, they often share their own tales of visiting the country. "Some have spent time in India as part of their service or work. It's interesting to hear about their experiences," says Arun.

A new chapter

Reflecting on their first year at Wind Crest, Arun and Ravi couldn't be happier with this vibrant, worry-free chapter in their life. "We don't have to worry about anything here," says Ravi. "That's another reason we moved to Wind Crest."

Now, they're inviting even more friends to consider a move to Wind Crest as well.
