• Manitou Springs, El Paso County business receives grants to prevent bear conflicts (krdo.com) — Manitou Springs just secured a $100,000 state grant to roll out bear‑resistant trash bins citywide and upgrade public cans downtown and at busy trailheads. The effort builds on earlier work to keep bears out of trash and reduce dangerous encounters. A nearby RV resort also received funding to install secure dumpsters, part of a broader statewide safety push.
   

• El Paso County commissioners endorse 'no' on passenger rail tax (gazette.com) — Manitou Springs voters will see a proposed passenger rail sales tax, even as El Paso County commissioners formally urge a "no" vote on the measure this November. The tax would help fund Front Range passenger rail using existing freight tracks, but commissioners argue residents could pay for years before trains run. Colorado Springs officials are still working with planners on station details.
