Vogelaar family donates 1,360-acre ranch to land trust (westernslopenow.com) — A longtime ranching family has donated the 1,360-acre Horsefly Mesa Ranch in Montrose County to Colorado West Land Trust, placing it under permanent conservation to prevent future development. The gift honors generations of family stewardship while funding additional land protection projects across western Colorado, preserving wildlife habitat and open space residents value.
2. 9/17/26 - 9/20/26 West End Blotter (montrosecountysheriffsoffice.com) — The Montrose County Sheriff's Office West End details calls from Sept. 17–20, including animal problems, disturbances, welfare checks, fires, medical assists, and several reports in Nucla, Naturita, Redvale, Norwood, and nearby rural roads. Residents can see where deputies were dispatched, from school zones and directed patrols to theft, weapons, and littering reports across the West End.
3. Denver reports 1st human West Nile Virus case this year, reminding metro area still at risk (sentinelcolorado.com) — Montrose County currently has the highest number of West Nile virus cases in Colorado, with 12 infections reported so far this year, even as Denver confirms its first case. Health officials warn that mosquito risk continues into October and urge residents to use repellent, wear long sleeves, and remove standing water around homes to reduce bites.
4. Vega Gerstel Sits Fourth After Day One at the San Juan Intercollegiate (gobuffsgo.com) — College golfers from West Texas A&M and other schools are competing at The Bridges Golf & Country Club in Montrose, where David Vega Gerstel sits fourth after shooting rounds of 72 and 64. Colorado Christian leads the San Juan Intercollegiate by 15 strokes heading into today's final round, showcasing Montrose as a regional tournament destination.
