• Baking contest to debut at Snowmass' 2026 Community Picnic (aspentimes.com) — Snowmass Village is hosting its 2026 Community Picnic this Saturday, Oct. 3, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Town Park Gazebo, featuring a free-entry baking contest for all ages. Bring a homemade dessert for judging or to share, enjoy free hamburgers and hot dogs, live music, kids' activities, and see which local bakers take home top prizes.
• Colorado distributes $1 million for communities working to reduce bears' access to trash as conflicts rise (aspentimes.com) — Snowmass Village's housing department is receiving $58,250 to replace an aging, non-compliant dumpster shed serving three affordable housing developments, part of a statewide push to cut bear access to trash. The grant is among more than $1 million Colorado is distributing to communities facing rising human-bear conflicts after a drought-driven surge in bear activity.
