12 Area Wrestlers Capture State Championships; Avon Snares Team Title

CONNECTICUT — Four divisional championship wrestling meets took place across Connecticut Saturday, with a school from Hartford County winning a team title and a dozen grapplers from Hartford and Tolland counties claiming individual weight class crowns.

In the Class M championships at Jonathan Law High School, RHAM appeaed to have captiured the team championship; however, the Raptors incurred a 1-point penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct during an on-mat celebration, lifting Avon to a 196.5-196 victory. It was the Falcons' first Class M title, after winning eight Class S championships between 1982 and 1995.

Top five placements for teams from the region were turned in by East Hartford (2nd, LL), Southington (5th, LL), Simsbury (3rd, L) and Berlin (4th, M).
