2 Killed In Wrong-Way Crash In Connecticut: State Police

The identities of the two people killed were released by state police on Sunday.

HAMPTON, CT — Two people were killed in a wrong-way crash on Route 6 in the town of Hampton, state police said. The crash occurred at 10:46 p.m. Saturday.

Jeffrey Wayne Goulart, 28, of Wellswood Road in Amston, and Jason F. Light, 44, of David Street in Putnam, were both killed in the wrong-way crash, state police said.

A person driving a 2016 Ford Escape was traveling eastbound on Route 6 approximately one mile west of Route 97, state police said. A person driving a 2012 Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound on Route 6 behind the Ford Escape, according to state police.

Goulart, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Legacy Outback, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of Route 6, state police said.

The driver of the Ford Escape swerved to the right shoulder area to avoid Goulart's vehicle, state police said. Goulart's vehicle crashed into the Ford Escape head-on, and the Ford Escape continued off the roadway before coming to a final rest on the embankment on the eastbound right shoulder area, state police said.

Goulart's vehicle continued westbound in the eastbound lane when the Hyundai Elantra hit Goulart's car in the passenger side area, state police said. Both Goulart and his passenger were killed, while the drivers of the other two vehicles were hospitalized, state police said.

In less than two months, nine Connecticut residents have been killed in four separate wrong-way fatal crashes.
