4 CT Colleges, Universities Land In Country's Top 100: Study

A WalletHub study found ranked four Connecticut higher-education institutions among the best in the country. One landed in the top spot.

CONNECTICUT — Yale University has been named the best in the country, according to 2024 rankings released by WalletHub. The university was also named the best in the country in rankings by Niche over the summer.

Three other Connecticut higher education institutions made the top 100 in the WalletHub study. Wesleyan University ranked No. 57 nationally; Trinity College came in at No. 90.; and Connecticut College was No. 96.

WalletHub compared over 800 higher-education institutions in the U.S. based on 30 key measures grouped into seven categories, including student selectivity, cost and financing, and career outcomes. The data set ranges from student-faculty ratio to graduation rate to post-attendance median salary.

Here are the top nine colleges and universities in Connecticut, per Wallet Hub:

  1. Yale University
  2. Wesleyan University
  3. Trinity College
  4. Connecticut College
  5. University of Connecticut
  6. Fairfield University
  7. University of Hartford
  8. Central Connecticut State University
  9. University of Hartford

Digging a bit deeper into the numbers, Yale ranked No. 7 in student selectivity and faculty resources, No. 3 in education outcomes, and No. 10 in career outcomes. The university had lower rankings in cost and financing (766) and campus safety (430).

The early decision college application deadline for high school seniors is looming Nov. 1. Tuition and room and board at a four-year college now costs $27,940 to $57,570 per year, according to WalletHub.

All Connecticut colleges and universities included in the study ranked in the bottom half in the cost and financing category. The best of the bunch was the University of Connecticut, which came in at No. 597.
