40+ COVID-19 'Test To Treat' Centers Open In CT: Here's Where

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut residents with a suspected COVID-19 infection can visit 40 “test to treat” sites in the state. The federal initiative allows people to get tested and receive antiviral pills if the treatment course is appropriate for them.

The antiviral pills can be used to treat eligible non-hospitalized patients who have mild to moderate symptoms and are at high risk for complications.

The pills are made by Pfizer and Merck. The Pfizer pill, called Paxlovid, reduced hospitalizations and deaths by 88 percent in trials. Merck’s pill reduced hospitalizations and deaths by 30 percent.

“In order for COVID-19 treatments to work, they must be started early, within five days of when your symptoms start,” said Department of Public Health Commissioner Manisha Juthani. ”The Test to Treat initiative provides eligible patients faster, easier access to potentially life-saving treatments.”

The antiviral pills remain in limited supply, according to DPH. The state receives a weekly allocation from the federal government.

Alternatively, people can be tested and treated by their own healthcare providers, who can prescribe the oral antiviral pills. The prescriptions can be filled at federally qualified health centers or many retail pharmacies.
