The workweek will start out dry and cooler, then heavy rain is expected in Connecticut on Thursday, according to meteorologists.

While the normal high temperature for this time of year is around 71 degrees, it will be cooler today, with highs reaching into the mid-60s, according to WFSB and the National Weather Service.

It is expected to be dry today, with increasing clouds as the day progresses.

WFSB anticipates temperatures will dip into the upper 30s and lower 40s tonight, and the station cautions state residents to consider bringing any tropical plants indoors.

WFSB predicts Tuesday will be sunny and on the cool side again, and then a disturbance arrives on Wednesday, bringing rain.

The National Weather Service also reports rain chances increase again Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night as the next system approaches.

WTNH anticipates clouds and showers will increase Wednesday, “as a slow moving storm develops to our south.” The station says it will be unseasonably cool, with highs in the upper 50s Wednesday.

“There’s still a bit of uncertainty as to exactly when those showers arrive - in the afternoon or later in the evening,” WFSB reports. “Regardless, the rain will last through much of the day Thursday, and could be locally heavy at times.”

The National Weather Service says thunderstorms are possible late Wednesday and Thursday.

WFSB predicts Thursday will be the wettest day of this week, and the showers could continue into early Friday.

“Rainfall amounts during this stretch could range anywhere from 0.5″ all the way to 1-2″+,” WFSB reports.

“Rain at times Thursday through much of Friday too!” WTNH meteorologists said.

WFSB meteorologists predict the weekend will be warmer, milder and dry. High temperatures on Saturday will reach well into the 70s, according to the National Weather Service.
