The first half of the workweek could bring record-breaking heat to Connecticut, then storms on Wednesday will be followed by a cooler pattern, according to meteorologists.
The National Weather Service predicts it will be “dry and unseasonably warm” Monday with summer-like weather, including sunny skies and highs in the 80s.
Tuesday is expected to bring “record heat,” with highs in the mid-90s in interior Connecticut, though it will be cooler along the shore, according to the National Weather Service. Wednesday will continue to be very warm, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, the National Weather Service reports.
“Isolated t-storms possible Tuesday afternoon with a better chance of strong to severe storms Wednesday as a strong cold front moves into the region,” the National Weather Service said.
WFSB is designating both Tuesday and Wednesday a “First Alert Weather Day” due to the heat and storm potential.
According to WFSB, Tuesday will “likely be the hottest day so far this year.”
The record high for the Hartford area is 94 degrees, set back in 1962, and the station is forecasting 95 degrees, according to WFSB.
The station predicts any thunderstorms are most likely to happen on Wednesday.
“An approaching front on Wednesday afternoon will likely spark off a line of showers and storms, some of which could be strong or even severe with heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning. Make sure to keep an eye to the sky and stay weather aware on Wednesday,” WFSB reports.
After the stormy weather moves out, the rest of the week will be much cooler and pleasant, according to the National Weather Service. It predicts Thursday and Friday will be sunny days with highs around 70 degrees.
Showers are likely for both Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees, the National Weather Service predicts.
WFSB predicts the upcoming Memorial Day weekend won’t be a total washout, however.
“Saturday has been trending wetter and wetter, and it looks like we’ll see some shower activity for at least part of the day,” WFSB reports. “There’s also the potential for some of these showers to stick around to Sunday, but current model guidance suggests we dry out by Memorial Day itself.”
