A dairy company has notified the state that it plans to "completely close" its New Britain facility, a move it expects will affect over 200 employees.

According to a WARN notice sent Thursday to the Connecticut Department of Labor, the Guida-Seibert Dairy Company plans to close its facility, located at 433 Park Street.

"This entire plant closure of the New Britian Facility is expected to be permanent," Josh Gravalec, the company's human resources manager, wrote in the WARN notice. "The employment of employees at the New Britian Facility will be terminated in multiple successive phases."

According to the notice, the company expects the first phase of layoffs to occur on July 20 or within a 14-day time period commencing on that date.

"In total, this action will affect 205 employees at the New Britain Facility," the notice reads.

The company currently expects the closure of the facility to be completed on or before Aug. 31, according to the notice.

According to the Hartford Business Journal, the New Britain facility traces its history to family-owned Guida's Milk, which was founded in the 1930's and was acquired by the Dairy Farmers of America in 2012.

In April 2023, Guida's announced on social media it would transition to its sister brand, Garelick Farms, along with an image that said "same milk, new label."
