STERLING, CT — A family has been displaced following a house fire Tuesday morning which also killed a cat, fire officials said.
The Sterling Fire Department and Oneco Fire Department responded to 223 Porter Pond Rd. in the Oneco section of town around 9:39 a.m.
Firefighters observed smoke showing from the attic vents, and when they entered the residence, they found heavy smoke on the second and third floors, according to a department Facebook post.
A dog was rescued from the first floor, officials said.
Crews located the fire in an office area on the second floor and extinguished the blaze.
The fire department said one cat died in the fire, and a second cat is presumed dead, but it could not be located.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced family, fire officials said.
The Fire Marshal’s office is still investigating the cause of the fire, however the fire department indicated it “may have been caused by a power strip.”
