Showers and thunderstorms are possible again later today, and then a heat wave is on the horizon, according to meteorologists.
The National Weather Service says today will feature gradual clearing after this morning’s precipitation, then scattered storms are possible between 3 and 11 p.m., with the greatest risk between 5 and 9 p.m.
“Any isolated showers or storms that do pop up should come to an end by midnight,” the National Weather Service said. “Dangerous cloud to ground lightning is possible with any storm.”
WFSB predicts there will be an uptick in humidity today, with temperatures reaching around 80 degrees.
“Later this afternoon, into the early evening hours, we’ll run the risk for an isolated shower or storm as a cold front moves into Southern New England,” WFSB reports.
“A passing early evening thunderstorm is possible in a few spots!” WTNH reports.
Weekend outlook
For the weekend, the National Weather Service says Saturday will start out cloudy, with a 30 percent chance of showers in the morning. There will be gradual clearing and highs around 80 degrees. It predicts Sunday will be mostly sunny, with highs between 82 to 86 degrees, with the higher temperatures inland.
WTNH predicts scattered showers Saturday, though its meteorologists say the day won’t be a washout, and the station predicts a partly sunny Sunday.
“Sunday is the pick of the weekend with seasonable temps and a brighter sky,” WFSB predicts. “While it will be borderline muggy over the weekend, humidity levels won’t be oppressive.”
Heat wave on the horizon
The National Weather Service predicts temperatures will start to climb during the work week, with highs Monday in the upper 80s, then reaching into the 90s for Tuesday through Thursday.
“Next week, to end June, and start July, here comes the high heat and humidity. Get ready for the 90s!!!” WTNH reports.
WFSB reports the state needs three consecutive days of 90 degrees or higher to qualify for a heat wave, and it predicts the state will reach those highs, along with higher humidity.
“We’ll close out the month of June as a warming trend gets underway that likely leads to our 2nd heat wave of the year - this is our Next Big Thing!” WFSB reports. “We’re forecasting 90 Tuesday, with temps going even higher Wednesday into Thursday.”
