The state has confirmed a second case of measles for 2026, according to the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

The latest patient is an adult who lives in Hartford County and had already been vaccinated against the disease, officials said.

The State Public Health Laboratory confirmed the diagnosis. Officials said the test “yielded a weak positive result.”

The patient, who is recovering at home, has had symptoms such as fever, cough, and rash.

This person had been exposed to the Connecticut adult diagnosed with measles two weeks ago and had been monitoring for symptoms, officials said.

In mid-June, state health officials announced they had confirmed the state’s first case of measles for 2026 in an unvaccinated adult from Hartford County who had recently traveled internationally.

According to health officials, infections in vaccinated individuals are typically milder and less likely to spread to others.

Nationwide, 2,134 cases of measles have been reported in 2026 so far, just 150 cases less than the number of cases reported in all of 2025, health officials said.

Prior to this case, Connecticut had only had two positive cases of measles in the past five years, both involving unvaccinated people who had recently returned from international travel, according to state health officials.

Measles is highly contagious, with symptoms typically including fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes (conjunctivitis), sore throat and a rash.

DPH Commissioner Manisha Juthani said the second person’s prior vaccination has meant milder symptoms, and vaccination is still the “best protection tool.”

"Because this individual was vaccinated, their symptoms are milder and their test result is a low-level positive, meaning that they are shedding a small amount of virus,” Juthani said.
