New Ice Cream Shop Launches In Downtown Bristol

BRISTOL, CT — A new ice cream parlor is serving up frozen desserts downtown, with three dozen flavors for customers to enjoy.

Mr. P's Frozen Treats had a soft opening this past weekend, and a grand opening with a ribbon cutting is scheduled for Saturday, July 25.

The eatery is at 120 North Main St., one of several new businesses in a development which features a mix of residential, retail and commercial space.

Mr. P's Frozen Treats is owned by Jesse Pescetelli, or "Mr. P," who launched the business with his wife, Danielle.

Jesse Pescetelli said the response from the community has already been positive.

Another ice cream shop which had been nearby, The Churn Ice Cream Shoppe, along with Carvel on Route 6, have shuttered.

"I think people are excited to have (an ice cream shop) back down here," he said.

Mr. P's menu includes soft serve, with vanilla, chocolate or twist. Customers also have 36 hard ice cream flavors to choose from, with some examples including Caramel Cookie Twist, Dark Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, Midnight Caramel River, Rum Raisin and Key Lime Pie.

One of the flavors is Super Berry Acai, which is a vegan, gluten-free and non-dairy option.

Customers can get their frozen treats in cups, cones or waffle cones, along with whipped cream and an array of sauces, ranging from hot fudge to caramel to butterscotch. Guests can order sundaes and shakes.

The menu features unique brand offerings like the "P-Storm," which features soft serve with mix-ins. Examples include the Brownie Avalanche, Strawberry Drift, M&M Mudslide, Heath Bar Hurricane, and Cookie Butter Cyclone.

"We will be experimenting with flavors as time goes on," Danielle Pescetelli said. "We will get creative and try new and unusual flavors - like bacon."

There is also the P-Stack specialty offering, which features layers and flavor combinations, such as Bristol All Heart, Oreo Dirt Cake, Reese's Campfire, and Paradise P-Stack.

The business is selling custom cakes for birthdays or other special events, and treats like cookies, brownies and ice cream sandwiches.

It has spaces for both indoor and outdoor dining, and there are plans to have live outdoor music and a fire pit for customers to enjoy.

Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu said she is "loving how the new North Main Street streetscape is emerging with new restaurants, shops and apartments."

"Mr. P's is the latest to open and is already drawing good reviews," she said. "I do think Bristol likes its ice cream as evidenced by the other great ice cream locations we have, so Mr. P's is a welcome downtown addition. Jesse and Danielle have done a great job with the décor, the menu and the customer service."

Both Jesse and Danielle Pescetelli are new to running an ice cream shop. They live in Bristol and are raising three children here. Their new business venture provides an opportunity for Jesse, who had been working as a truck driver, to be home more, according to the couple.

"The community has already been wonderful," said Danielle Pescetelli. "There has been a buzz because these buildings are all new and the area is revitalizing."

The couple said the business will be involved in giving back to the community. Its "Cherry on Top program," for example, will allow customers to add a cherry to their order to benefit a school, sports team, family or neighborhood organization, according to the business' website.
