CT Trooper Hospitalized Following Crash Involving Truck, Police Say

KILLINGLY, CT — A truck and a trooper's vehicle were involved in an accident in Killingly, leaving the trooper with possible injuries, according to state police.

The trooper's Ford Interceptor was driving northbound on I-395 in the left lane near exit 41 at 6:17 p.m. Tuesday. The state police SUV had its emergency lights and sirens on.

A light commercial truck was driving in the right lane. The truck then merged into the left lane, "directly in the path" of the trooper, according to state police.

The trooper then "took evasive action by swerving partially into the median, avoiding a collision..."

However, the trooper lost control of the SUV, striking a guard rail and a concrete bridge wall in the center median.

The trooper reported possible injuries and sought treatment at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. The trooper's cruiser sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene of the accident.

The truck's driver was found at fault for the crash, state police said.

He was issued an infraction ticket for failure to maintain proper lane.

Following a commercial vehicle inspection, police discovered the truck had multiple out-of-service violations. The truck was towed away due to the violations.
