The National Weather Service says scattered thunderstorms are possible in Connecticut today, and a few may be strong to severe.
The highest risk for storms is west of the Connecticut River Valley, according to its meteorologists.
The likeliest timing for isolated severe storms is between 2 p.m. and midnight today.
"Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening," the National Weather Service said. "A few thunderstorms could potentially be strong to severe with the primary threat being damaging wind gusts."
Heavy rainfall from storms could result in flash flooding too, according to the National Weather Service. A flood watch is in effect for southwestern Connecticut.
High temperatures today will reach into the low 80s.
WFSB reports today will be more humid and unsettled, and it is calling today a "First Alert Weather Day" due to potential storms and any impact on outdoor plans.
"In advance of an approaching cold front, isolated to scattered storms become likely this afternoon into the evening hours," WFSB reports. "Severe storms are a possibility with damaging wind gusts, lightning, and heavy rain being the primary concerns. Within the region, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Currently, the greatest risk for severe weather is west of CT, but any storms that develop in NY could head our way. The threat diminishes by midnight."
The chance for showers and thunderstorms is expected to linger into Friday, with high temperatures in the low 80s again.
