BRISTOL, CT — A South Side School student sustained minor injuries Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle, according to police.
Lt. Patrick Krajewski said the accident involved a 10-year-old male student.
Police said the student "had left from behind a parked vehicle and entered the roadway in front of a moving sedan."
The driver of the sedan attempted to stop but struck him, according to police.
"The juvenile had very minor scrapes but was transported to an area hospital to be evaluated," Krajewski said. "He was released the same day."
The investigation is still ongoing and no enforcement action has been taken, police said Friday.
Kristin Abraham, principal of South Side School, which is at 21 Tuttle Rd., sent a letter to the school community on Wednesday.
School administration said in the letter the incident happened on Woodard Place, which is a residential neighborhood near the school.
"A student exiting their vehicle was struck by an oncoming car," the letter said. "We want to reassure you immediately that the student was evaluated and is doing okay."
The accident happened in a location without a crossing guard, school administration said. A school bus was nearby at the time, as were several student walkers, according to the letter.
"As a safety reminder, please ensure students walking to school use designated walking routes, sidewalks, and crossing guard support at all times," the letter said. "We are deeply grateful that the student is safe."
The Bristol incident happened the same day as a fatal accident involving a sixth grader at North Stonington Elementary School.
