BOZRAH, CT — The Papathanasiou family, which operates Bozrah Pizza Restaurant, experienced "something that changed our lives very suddenly" last month.
"Our mother suffered a stroke," the family wrote on Facebook. "For so many years, Mom has been such an important part of our restaurant—not only as the matriarch of our family, but as one of the people behind the scenes who helped make this place what it is. She would be here early in the morning alongside our father, prepping, cooking, helping wherever she was needed, and doing so many of the little things that most people never see."
She is back home after a stay in the hospital, but things are different.
"Her recovery requires more of our time, attention, and presence at home," the post reads. "At the same time, our incredible staff has stepped up tremendously to help carry the additional workload, and after the past month, we recognize that they need and deserve some additional time to rest and recharge as well."
Due to that change, the restaurant is now closed on Mondays. Previously, it was only closed on Sundays.
"This isn't a decision we made lightly," the post reads. "We love being here and serving this community. But right now, there are some things that are simply more important, and our family needs a little more time together to take care of Mom, take care of Dad, and adjust to this new chapter of our lives."
The post had garnered 646 reactions and 223 comments as of Thursday morning.
The family-owned restaurant has been around for over 30 years.
In addition to pizza, the restaurant serves a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, grinders, seafood and more.
