The Department of Labor's website shows that 70 workers are expected to lose their jobs.

The layoffs come due to "business circumstances," the company said.

The company is family-owned and has been around since 1906, according to its website. It started in New York City and established its Connecticut headquarters in 1946.

The layoffs were expected to begin Tuesday and continue through Dec. 19.

Affected employees do not have bumping rights, meaning that they will not be able to displace junior workers out of their jobs.

S&S's Colchester headquarters are located at 75 Mill St.

S&S Worldwide supplies arts and crafts materials, educational products, recreational equipment and other supplies to schools, summer camps, senior centers and similar organizations. The company has over 250,000 square feet of warehouse and distribution space.
